This page provides early support and (mostly) links for students taking my spring 2015 class Predictive Analytics class at the University of Baltimore.
Tablet users: This page should work fine on Windows and Mac computers and laptops, but I’m having a little trouble setting up the site for tablet and cell phone access (they keeping looking for my mobile page, and I don’t have one). In the Chrome browser on my Android tablet, after trying (and failing), to load the page, if I go to the Chrome menu, it gives me the choice to “Request desktop site” and then I can get here. Your results may vary.
About Screenshows
The screenshows available on this site are regular *.mp4 files. There are two ways to watch the screenshows —
- You can watch them LIVE from within the site, or
- You can DOWNLOAD them to your computer and watch them from there.
If you have a fast internet connection, either way works fine. But, if you don’t have a high-speed internet connection, or you want to watch them while ensconced at your favorite coffeeshop with a slower connection, you may want to download the screenshow and watch it from your local computer. But there is a tiny little catch. The link to the “live” version is actually to a “wrapper” (no, not “rapper”) that makes your live viewing experience better, but doesn’t work for downloads. To “download” the screenshow, on Windows, right click on the separate “download” link, and save it to your computer. There is a similar trick on the Mac.
IPython Notebook Code File WARNING: Read Me Now!
Python has a slogan, “We’re all consenting adults here.” “We’re all consenting adults here.” This is true of Python code files AND IPython notebook (*.ipynb) files. You can do just about anything in IPython you can do in Python—including erasing your hard disk. So, you should treat these files just like they were executable (*.exe) files. Just like you would not run an unknown executable file on your computer, you should not use IPython notebook files (or any Python code) that you don’t trust.
I’m 99.9% sure that the IPython notebook files stored on this site are not hackable; I would trust them. If you have concerns, just drop me an e-mail at my UBalt address and I will e-mail you the notebook file. Once our Sakai site is up and running we can be even more confident. (I have 99.99% confidence that site is not hackable.)
